TAL has industry leading Actuaries working across Individual Risk (the likelihood of an individual suffering from serious injury/death), Group Risk (the policies of an organisation covering life insurance, income protection and critical injury of staff or members), Capital & Asset Liability Management (process used to reduce the risk of a company not meeting its future obligations) and Pricing & Analytics. All of whom are crucial in achieving our ambition.
We are committed to providing educational support for you to excel in your career. An example of this is through our Actuarial Education Assistance (AEA) program. The program provides financial support for our actuaries, across all disciplines, to obtain professional qualifications.
TAL being a part of the Dai-ichi Life Group has created global opportunities for TAL employees. After talking to my manager about my desire to work overseas, TAL created an opportunity for me to spend two years working at our sister company Protective life in the US. Living and working in a different country was exciting and gave me the opportunity to learn (and teach others) something new.
Our team of underwriters carefully consider each customers situation and information provided to determine whether we’re able to offer the cover applied for. We have dedicated Underwriters in our Group and Retail business units, supported by in-house Health Services and Technical Specialists. These specialists make sure our underwriters have access to the best and most up to date information, which allows underwriters to make informed decisions for customers.
In 2018, TAL launched an industry-first underwriting education initiative designed to help advisers and their clients better understand the underwriting process and support TAL customers with their ongoing health. We also launched the award-winning Wunderwriter tool which uses machine learning to carry out instant quality assurance (QA) on all our underwriting decisions, flagging any potential inconsistencies for our QA team to follow up. The potential productivity improvements are exciting and we’re continuing to experiment with AI to benefit our customers and partners.
Being a part of the Underwriting Team has allowed me to experience so many incredible opportunities, both at TAL as well as in the industry. These opportunities have not only supported my ongoing career progression, they have kept me extremely engaged and enthusiastic. My senior leaders have always genuinely encouraged me to run with my ideas and engage in the projects that really interest me. I know my contribution is valued, and has even been recognised and rewarded at a company level.
